JULY SPECIAL OFFERS - BURGUNDY (limited quantities & no further discounts)
This month marks the celebration of our start in 1985. And at our core we are about wines from a place and no place captivates us more that the Climats and Lieux-dits of Burgundy. Here are a few wonderful Burgundies at reasonable prices (at least for Burgundy)!
The ‘la combotte’ is a lieux-dit vineyard in Pommard but this must refer simply to vines on higher slopes.
2017 Domaine Charles Pere & Fille, Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune ‘La Combotte’ - “Based in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, this producer has crafted a deliciously supple and fruity wine. Acidity and red fruits are lightly touched by tannins, while the wine finishes with freshness. Drink now.” (WE) Regular Price: $29.99, On sale in JULY: $19.99
The quintessential expression of Chardonnay and the wine California Chardonnay wants to be when it grows up!
2016 Chapelle de Blagny Blagny Meursault Premier Cru, France- “This is a blend from a number of parcels previously owned by monks (who understood the location of good vineyards) in the hamlet of Blagny situated just back from the main Meursault vineyards. The wine is rich with a subtle hint of toastiness and honey along with minerality and bright green and white stone fruits. Drink from 2020.” (WE) Regular Price: $69.99, On sale in JULY: $39.99
Blagny, a climat in the southernmost part of Meursault makes both white and red wine (Pinot Noir).
2015 Chapelle de Blagny, “La Piece Sous le Dos d’Ane” Blagny Premier Cru, France – “From one of the premier crus in this 17-acre estate, this wine is rich with red fruits and layers of wood-aging flavors. It has richness, intense ripe fruit and finishing acidity. It is still too young and should not be drunk before 2021.” (WE) Regular Price: $79.99, On sale in JULY: $44.99
JULY SPECIAL OFFER – From the Cellar! (limited quantities & no further discounts)
For an interesting comparison, buy a Kesseler Spätburgunder and open with the 2015 Blagny!
2004 August Kesseler Spätburgunder Pinot Noir Trocken, Rheingau, Germany - Only 1,000 cases produced of this ‘entry-level’ Pinot and all the vines are from Clos de Vougeot cuttings. The wine was surprisingly fresh and the color still had youthful, pale red notes. Aromas of ripe fruits and herbal notes with a very smooth finish. Straight forward and not complicated but a good example of aged Pinot Noir. (PS- The cork was in great condition!) Regular Price: $33.99, On sale in JULY: $17.99 (limit 2 per customer)
JULY SPECIAL OFFER
Semillon for the Summer- Fresh and a lower ABV!
2023 Tyrrell’s Semillon Hunter Valley, Australia - “The 2023 Semillon is a triumph. It’s tight, austere, fleshy and fine, with crushed shells, pineapple husk, green apples, layers of saline acidity and very, very fine phenolics. This is a sleek wine made for drinking now. And what pleasure it delivers; a more perfect summer wine may not exist. Look no further than Hunter Valley Semillon. 11.8% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.” (WA) Regular Price: $24.99, On sale in JULY: $18.99
NEW ARRIVALS
2021 r Wines Cabernet Franc, Monticello, Virginia - Riaan Rossouw and Rachel O’Neil are the couple behind this wonderful Monticello Cabernet Franc. Riaan came by in June with a sample and we loved it. Rich but balanced with great acidity and expressive aromatics, the wine is not oaked out like so many Virginia reds. Focusing on quality, they keep production small (only 50 cases were made). If you have been on the fence about Virginia wine, try this out & see how much the Commonwealth has to offer. $33.99
2015 Viña Otano Gran Reserva Blanco Rioja DOCa, Spain - “This wine offers a bouquet of green pear and white chocolate. Tropical fruit and citrus flavors wash over the palate, joined by notes of butterscotch, cocoa butter and toasted almond that linger into the enduring finish.” (WE) We all loved this wonderfully aged white Gran Reserva Rioja. If you like FBWs (full-bodied whites), this is not one to miss. $39.99
2021 Domaine de Brize Anjou Villages “Clos Medecin” Loire, France - (60% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon) We featured this in our Loire Uncorked wine class and it was a big hit. 2021 was a bit of a tough vintage but 5th generation brother and sister winemaking team Luc and Line Delhumeau really nailed it. Super expressive, this wine punches you in the face with all the flavors Loire Cabernet Franc is celebrated for: graphite/lead pencil, wet gravel, bell pepper, black pepper, raspberry, blackberry, it has it all. $21.99
NEW ARRIVALS – ROSÉ – July is peak Rosé season! (Actually every month is perfect for Rosé)
2023 Bodegas Bhilar Lágrimas de Bhilar Granacha Rosé, Navarra, Spain- Biodynamically farmed! Very expressive aromas of pure red fruit and fresh crushed flowers. Rocky minerality on the palate with a refreshing jolt of juiciness and a clean, bright finish. Pairs wonderfully with salmon cooked with fresh herbs. Easy to open and even easier to enjoy! $12.99
2023 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose Provence, France - Domaine Tempier is a legend in Bandol and their rosé is a often considered among the most interesting and well-made wines from the Provençal region. A blend of about 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache, and 20% Cinsault, it is usually super concentrated and very intense in its youth It should be laid down for a year or two as it will take on flavors of candied citrus fruit,
melon and rose petal while retaining a wonderful vibrant acidity. $56.99 (Limit 1 per customer)
