OCTOBER SPECIAL OFFERS!
It’s VIRGINIA WINE MONTH! –Special offer! (limit 2 per customer)
2020 Lightwell Survey ‘Dos Idiots’ Virginia, USA - “A blend of 52% Cabernet Franc and 48% Petit Manseng. We’re immediately intrigued by the color in the glass. Almost like older Nebbiolo, lighter with rusty undertones. Oddly enough that sort of translates to the nose which was very subtle and savory. All that went out the window when tasted. This is certainly Sebastian’s favorite red of the year. The complexity is what gets him. The palate is elegant and rich with ashy tannins that know just when to let go. The fruits (ripe strawberry, plum) are cooked with baking spice and pipe tobacco. 211 cases produced.” Winery notes.
Regular price $29.99 / On Sale in October: $24.99
Cabernet Franc is the perfect red wine transition from summer to fall!
2021 Domaine du Facteur ‘La Petite Musette’ Rouge Vin de France- (100% Cabernet franc) – This clean organic wine is a light to medium bodied gem. Fresh and herbaceous with notes of dried fruits, green and black peppers it has all of the quaffable characteristics of classic Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. If you like this, also try their delicious Chenin Blanc! Regular price $24.99 / On Sale in October: $16.99
What? You don’t drink much wine from Sicily? Well here is your easy introduction to Sicilian red wine!
2018 Bonavita Faro Sicily, Italy – (An organic blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera.) “The 2018 Faro takes its time opening in the glass, dark and dusty in character, with smoldering ashen stones and dried herbs slowly settling into steeped plums and mint. It’s silky, sleek and racy in feel, with pure red and blue fruit carried across a streak of zesty acidity. This finishes tannic, as a young Faro should, yet it is rounder than expected. The 2018 leaves hints of black raspberry and citrus to mingle. This may not have the depth and complexity of the best vintage, but it will provide an earlier drinking window and plenty of pleasure over the medium term.” (Vinous) Regular price $49.99 / On Sale in October: $29.99
It was a bit tight when coravined for review, but later, when opened with dinner, this Sancerre was a gobsmacker!
2022 Yves Martin Sancerre “Chavignol” Blanc Loire, France - Chavignol, a commune in the Sancerre appellation, is home to the most famous vineyards in the area and is renowned for the intense minerality and long aging potential of its chalky terres blanches soil. These are white wines that benefit from a brief decant. Young and tight at first, the wine opens to revel lovely lemon, quince and flinty notes with a touch of salinity on a zesty, minerally finish perfect with your fresh oysters! Regular price $36.99 / On Sale in October: $22.99
OCTOBER SPECIAL OFFER – Staff Selection from the cellar!
We opened a sample to review and Ellen was immediately intrigued & taken by this intriguing Catalan value.
2014 Vins del Massis ‘Massis’ Blanco Catalonia, Spain – (50/50 blend of Garnacha Blanca and Xarello) This 2014 white from Catalunya is showing its age, but in a good way! With the deep golden color of an aged Saviennieres, the Massis has hints of a dry sherry, along with notes of salted almonds, dried tart apricots, and delicate chamomile. A perfect pairing with black bean nachos or blue cheese stuffed olives.
Regular price $21.99 / On Sale in October: $9.99
NEW ARRIVALS
2020 Chateau Lauduc Le Babbler Bordeaux Superieur, France – (82% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc) An organic gem from the Entre-Deux-Mers and aged for twelve months in an equal mix of stainless steel and oak barrels. Everybody agrees this classic Bordeaux has juicy blackberry and plum notes finishing with lush, supple tannins. $18.99
2019 Borgo Paglianetto Vertis Verdicchio di Matelica Marche, Italy- “The 2019 Verdicchio di Matelica Vertis stops you in your tracks, pulling you close with its nuanced bouquet of incense, chamomile and dried flowers. Coaxing unlocks further depths of ripe apple, ginger and hints of vanilla. This 2019 is deeply textural and medium-bodied, communicating importance through its weighty presence; yet all is kept perfectly in place by a mix of vibrant acids and salty minerals. There’s a youthful density here that will require time to unwind, with a blend of white stone fruits, sometimes melon and sometimes lime, and all under an air of tropical florals. This tapers off remarkably long and staining - yet fresh. This is Vertis at its best, but it will require a few years of cellaring to fully blossom. That said, it will be worth the wait.” (Vinous) $29.99
2015 Tenuta Santomè Raboso, Parcel #912, DOC Piave, Veneto, Italy- (100% Raboso) - A native varietal of the Veneto, the Raboso from Santomè is full, dark and rich with chocolate and dried cherry notes. Aged five years before release, this hearty red is drinking beautifully. Try it with a braised lamb shank. $23.99
2021 Claudio Mariotto “Derthona”, Timorasso, DOC Colli Tortonesi, Piedmont, Italy - The Timorasso grape has emerged from obscurity in recent years to quickly contend as the new prestige white wine of Piemonte. Claudio Mariotto is one of the winemakers responsible for that rebirth and this golden example with stone fruit, delicate honey, and floral notes shows why. This reminded us of a good Loire Valley Chenin Blanc, which is some of the highest praise we can offer. Enjoy with richer food, such as risotto. $29.99
2021 La Bioca ‘Bussia’ Chardonnay Langhe, Piedmont, Italy - With over 500 indigenous varietals, we have long avoided carrying Italian wines made with international varietals, as we are fervent evangelists for the hidden glory and value that the white wines of Italy offer. This Langhe Chardonnay won us over and has earned a place next to its native neighbors. From the famed Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, famous for its much pricer Barolos, this lovely, zippy Chardonnay had a charming creamy quality reminiscent of a Cote d’Or Burgundy. It is aged 12 months in new French oak tonneaux, but the result is a wine that showcases why there will always be a place at the table for oak-aged wines when done so deftly. $32.99
